SmartLotion isn't new, even though its new to me (and probably you, too!) Dr. Steve Harlan MD, the creator, invented the formula in the early 90's. This was in response to Big Pharma pushing prescription steroids like crazy for eczema treatment. We all know how that turned out.

Dr. Harlan understood that while strong steroids can be very effective in the short term, his patients needed something safe and effective for long term dermatitis relief and management.

Since then, Dr. Harlan has been using SmartLotion to treat ALL his dermatitis patients - a time period of over 30 years of use!

Now, since making SmartLotion available online, he has published a detailed "protocols guide" where he gives specific step-by-step instructions on how he would treat every type of dermatitis for his patients. 

For some cases, he suggests applying 4x per day and tapering down week over week. Other cases only require 2x per day and tapering down from there... It truly depends on a case by case basis, and every possible scenario is covered in his protocols guide. For eczema patients, for example, he really hammers how important moisturizing 2x per day is in addiition to the SmartLotion applications. 

Although Dr. Harlan advertises SmartLotion with a "95% Sucess Rate," if his online customers just follow his protocols guide, they should expect a 100% sucess rate. That's what we did for Ella. :)

The thing that most hurt me as Ella's mother was watching her scratch and scratch and scratch. She couldn't help herself. Sometimes she would even scratch until she bled.

Obviously eczema is unsightly, but for me (speaking on behalf of my daughter), the worst part was the nonstop itching.

4. One-Of-A-Kind Dual-Action Formula

At this point you're probably wondering the same thing I did. HOW?

In my interview with Dr. Harlan, he revealed the "magic" behind SmartLotion and it's not as crazy as you might think.

Basically, it all comes down to the 2 root causes of all dermatitis: unchecked inflammation and the microbiome. 

When most humans, myself included, come into contact with noxious microbes (Bad bacteria like staph, for example) on their skin... their immune system takes care of it, and then goes back to normal. 

This isn't the case for dermatitis patients. Their immune systems can't shut off, which is how you get the out of control rashes.

So Dr. Harlan's solution is really quite simple: Start with a safe, low-strength dose (0.75%) of hydrocortisone (I know what you're thinking re: steroids. I'll come back to this soon.) for the inflammation and itching. 

Combine that with a prebiotic solution featuring sulfur (think: therapeutic sulfur baths) to address the underlying microbiome issues and noxious microbes that trigger the rash in the first place.

The two core ingredients work hand in hand. Nothing else has a dual action formula like this which is why nothing else has been as effective in treating Ella's eczema.

5. Clinically Proven 100% Safe & Side-Effect Free

The first thought I had when I saw that the formula contianed hydrocortisone was "What about the side effects!?"

Prescription steroids can cause extreme, long-term side effects and even 1% hydrocortisone from your local pharmacy will thin the skin with extended use.

With steriods being so closely associated with side effects, how could a product that contains a steroid claim that it is 100% safe and side effect free?!

Well, there's a couple things at play: First, although it doesn't seem like much of a difference, 0.75% hydrocortisone is significantly weaker than 1% hydrocortisone. Second, and most importantly, the sulfur in the prebiotic solution actually protects the skin and counteracts any potential side effects that the hydrocortisone could cause.

It seemed impossible, but when I pressed Dr. Harlan on the matter, he proved it. This study, published in the Journal of Drugs and Dermatology, observed a group of his patients over 15 years of continuous use. In the study, not a single sign of any type of steroid side effect was found.

That's right. Dr. Harlan's patients used SmartLotion for 15 years continuously and never had any issues with side effects.

It almost seems too good to be true but I'm not one to argue with science, and the Journal of Drugs and Dermatology is one of the top scientific publications in the field. 

In summary: SmartLotion, as far as I know, is the only steroid-containing product in the entire world that does not cause any side effects whatsoever.
